Busy Pigeon is a separate work that departs from the main series and introduces an element of irony and linguistic humor into the artist’s practice.
The canvas depicts a pigeon in a dynamic pose interacting with a deliberately provocative object, accompanied by the phrase “I’m busy”. The bright, almost comic-like visual language contrasts with the themes present in other works, creating tension between the lightness of the image and its underlying content.
The work is based on an idiomatic expression widespread in the Ukrainian context, describing a state of feigned busyness — a situation in which activity is simulated but in fact absent. In this case, the artist transfers a local linguistic code into a visual form, where the gesture of the pigeon becomes a direct metaphor for this behavior.
For an international audience, Busy Pigeon functions as a study of the untranslatability of humor: the work reveals how cultural codes can lose their obviousness outside their original environment, while still retaining universality through gesture, irony, and absurdity.
A small fragment of pigeon droppings, integrated into the composition, connects the work to the artist’s main practice, leaving it on the border between an individual statement and part of a broader material investigation.
