SHITTY WAR

Acrylic, pigeon droppings, epoxy resin
The Shitty War — a work born from an acute emotional reaction to war and at the same time rooted in the historical memory of pigeons’ role in human conflicts.
At the center of the composition is a pigeon in a helmet, surrounded by images of war: a tank, a missile, a Molotov cocktail, and a grenade. Executed using pigeon droppings as the main material, the work combines a direct, almost naïve visual language with the radical nature of the material itself, intensifying a sense of absurdity and violence.
Although the impulse for its creation was the full-scale war of russia against Ukraine, the work extends beyond a specific time and geography. It refers to the history of the First and Second World Wars, in which pigeons served as messengers and saved human lives, often at the cost of their own.
In this context, The Shitty War functions as a stark reminder of the rupture between past and present. The same birds — or their conditional descendants — that were once part of military history are today pushed to the margins of urban life: unwanted, displaced, and hungry. They exist in an environment entirely dependent on humans, while simultaneously becoming objects of neglect or violence.
The work captures this tension between memory and oblivion, gratitude and devaluation, transforming the image of the pigeon into a symbol not only of war, but also of lost responsibility.
