The painting captures a moment that usually passes too quickly for anyone to witness. A pigeon sits on a power line at the exact instant an electric current surges through its body. The flash transforms its silhouette into something resembling an X-ray image: inside the darkened form, an anatomical skeleton appears, carefully reconstructed from ornithological anatomy studies.

The work exists somewhere between absurdity and documentation. A moment of misfortune becomes a moment of revelation — thanks to this unlucky accident, we are suddenly able to see Valera from the inside. What could have turned into catastrophe instead becomes an opportunity to look deeper.

In this piece, dark humor coexists with tenderness toward the urban bird whose presence has become so ordinary that its body often turns invisible to us. “Bad Luck” plays with the human tendency to search for meaning even in danger, transforming a brief moment of chaos into an almost scientific aesthetic of light, bones, and electricity.

The painting is presented in a heavily textured frame, hand-finished with decorative plaster. An integrated ultraviolet light system is built directly into the frame, activating three different types of paint layered throughout the work. Depending on the lighting conditions — daylight, ultraviolet light, or darkness — the painting reveals three separate visual states, transforming the image into a shifting, multi-layered environment rather than a fixed surface.
