The Four Shitty Squares series consists of four 50 × 40 cm canvases in which the artist explores the natural palette of pigeon droppings and their unexpected painterly quality. Each work is built on a black surface, within which a smaller square is formed — almost like a museum frame for the observation of colour, texture, and the material’s natural composition.

At the core of the series lies the observation that pigeon droppings possess their own watercolour-like gradation, ranging from nearly pure white to deep green and almost black. The artist works with the material without artificially altering either its colour or form, preserving its original state as an autonomous painterly gesture.

Two of the works are constructed through colour gradients created from dried droppings, whose shapes remain exactly as they were left by the pigeon. In the first composition, the transition from the lightest to the darkest tones unfolds horizontally, resembling an almost archival study of a natural palette. In the second, the gradation begins at the centre and gradually expands outward, transforming the square into a concentrated field of colour and organic texture.

The third work is created using fresh droppings, which the artist manually pressed into the surface of the canvas. Here, the material loses its sculptural separateness and becomes almost painterly matter — a gesture in which the watercolour-like nature of the pigeon trace reveals itself through density, moisture, and the physical presence of colour.

A distinct position within the series is occupied by the fourth work — a radically minimalist composition built around a single object. At the centre of the black field lies an original heart-shaped dropping created by a pigeon Yura. The artist neither alters nor reshapes the form, preserving it exactly as it appeared. The work exists on the boundary between ready-made, document, and a gesture of tenderness, where an accidental act of nature acquires an almost symbolic precision
